International Students Participating in the 2025 Fall Semester Workshop for New Students and GKS Scholars at Sungshin Women’s University
Sungshin Women’s University (President Seong-Keun Yi) held the 2025 Fall Semester Workshop for New and Transfer International Degree Students and GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) Scholars on September 6 at Nanhyangwon, a training center located in Dobong-gu, Seoul.
The workshop, attended by around 180 participants—including newly admitted international students in undergraduate and graduate programs from the 2025-2 semester, GKS government-invited scholars, and outstanding GKS exchange students—was organized to support their smooth transition to academic and daily life in Korea. It also aimed to enhance understanding of the university and its key administrative services, foster a sense of belonging, and encourage interaction and friendship among international students.
The international students, who are pursuing their majors while experiencing diverse aspects of Korean culture through Sungshin’s specialized global education programs, engaged in a wide range of activities throughout the workshop. These included ▲an introduction to campus life ▲sessions on understanding Korean culture ▲team-building games and activities ▲as well as a barbecue dinner. The event provided valuable opportunities for students from various countries to broaden both their academic and cultural horizons while building strong connections with one another.
As of the 2025 Fall semester, Sungshin Women’s University is home to 1,430 international students from 42 countries and regions, including 793 language trainees, 422 undergraduate students, and 215 graduate students—further solidifying its reputation as a truly global university. Notably, in February the university was once again recognized in the Ministry of Education’s International Education Quality Assurance System (IEQAS) evaluation, achieving the highest “Excellent” rating for the 11th consecutive year, a testament to its outstanding long-term performance in ensuring the quality of international student education.
Elshafey Hagar Khaled Ahmed Mohammed, a GKS government-invited scholar and master’s student in Media and Communication, shared her impressions of the event:
“I enjoyed meeting friends from different countries through the workshop, and it was very helpful for me to better understand Korean culture and university life in Korea.”
Hyung-Min Lee, Director of Sungshin’s Office of International Affairs, remarked:
“This workshop has greatly helped our new international students begin the semester with a stronger sense of belonging as members of Sungshin, while also supporting their quick adjustment to campus life. We will continue to provide dedicated support so that all international students can enjoy a stable and meaningful academic journey here.”
