Expanding Cultural Understanding and Communication through Diverse Exchange Programs |
Students Participating in the International Exchange Night Event
Sungshin Women’s University (President Yi Seong-Keun) successfully hosted the 2025 Fall Semester International Networking Night event, “Heungbu and Nolbu: Discovering the Secret in the Gourd,” on September 25 at Sungshin Hall.
The event, inspired by the traditional Korean folktale Heungbu and Nolbu, provided a meaningful opportunity for international students and Korean students to participate together, fostering mutual cultural understanding and exchange.
In particular, both domestic and international students involved in “Sungshin Global Friends” — an international student support program that includes major mentoring, buddy, and tutoring activities — joined the event, adding further significance. Currently, Sungshin Women’s University hosts 1,430 international students from 42 countries and actively supports various exchange activities to help them feel a sense of belonging as members of the university community and adapt smoothly to campus life.
At the event, students experienced the values of cooperation, consideration, and responsibility through games inspired by the story of Heungbu and Nolbu. It served as a meaningful opportunity for students from different academic and cultural backgrounds to communicate naturally, better understand one another, and form closer bonds, while international students gained deeper insights into Korean culture.
The Sungshin Global Friends program is a structured exchange system that supports both the adaptation of international students to campus life and the enhancement of Korean students’ global competencies. ▲ Major Mentoring pairs senior students with international degree-seeking students to assist with academic learning and daily life. ▲ Buddy Program matches international exchange students with one or two Korean students to support them in school life and everyday adaptation. ▲ Tutoring allows domestic and international students to learn each other’s languages and share cultures, promoting both academic development and friendships.
Lee Hyung-min, Director of the Office of International Affairs, stated, “The International Exchange Night is closely connected to the Sungshin Global Friends program and provides an important opportunity to help international students adjust smoothly to university life. Moving forward, we will continue to expand programs where domestic and international students can grow and engage together.”
