Sungshin Women’s University (Acting President Wonho Lee) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, on July 1 at its Soojung Campus in Seoul to promote youth exchange and foster globally minded talent.
The signing ceremony was attended by Acting President Wonho Lee, Governor Masazumi Gotoda of Tokushima Prefecture, and key representatives from both institutions. Under the agreement, the two parties will cooperate in a range of initiatives, including student exchange and overseas immersion programs, cultural exchange activities aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, and collaborative efforts to strengthen people-to-people diplomacy and cultivate global talent.
As part of the newly established partnership, Sungshin Women’s University will dispatch 64 students to Tokushima Prefecture on July 25 at the invitation of the prefectural government. The students will participate in a variety of programs designed to provide first-hand experience of Japanese culture and traditions. In addition to engaging in cultural exchange activities, participants will serve as ambassadors who introduce the attractions and unique value of Tokushima Prefecture to domestic and international audiences, further strengthening institutional cooperation and enhancing the University’s global profile.
Following the signing ceremony, Governor Gotoda delivered a special lecture titled “The Glocal Youth Exchange Initiative.” During his remarks, he emphasized that “glocal” talent must possess the ability to remain rooted in local communities while maintaining strong connections to the wider world. He further noted that exposure to diverse cultures and people beyond national and regional boundaries is one of the most important elements in developing globally competent leaders.
Acting President Wonho Lee stated, “Our partnership with Tokushima Prefecture will provide yet another valuable platform for Sungshin students to communicate, learn, and grow on the global stage.” He added, “We look forward to expanding and deepening exchanges between our two institutions through this agreement and creating meaningful opportunities for future generations of global talent.”
