Department of English Language and Literature originates from Department of Foreign Language Education created in 1965. The department has total of about 400 students enrolled and seven faculty members including 2 international(native) professors. Our department offers subjects in which students learn English, British/American literature and culture and study linguistics aspect of English. After completing the undergraduate course, a student can advance to the Graduate School or the Graduate School of Education for in-depth research. The department has the following educational goals. First, it cultivates in students the pragmatic skills of English listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Second, it engages in in-depth research on English linguistics, British/American literature, and English education. Third, students will develop a critical perspective that re-examines Korean society and culture by learning the culture and thinking in the English-speaking countries.
