"As part of an authentic, time-honored, and large-sized college of art, Department of Western Painting boasts its systematic lineup of the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. The departments encourages its students to have an in-depth learning of wide-ranging media and diverse-ranging art theories from drawing to painting, engraving, composite media, installation, photography, film, and New Media, and thus aims to foster excellent visual art professionals who are equipped with the specialist knowledge in and the expression ability for contemporary art. Furthermore, our program supports our students so that they may continuously create good works that open up new eras while on the school program and after graduation by tapping into their unique creativity and through critical thinking with depth and go from there to grow as visual art professionals who can greatly contribute across the visual culture."
Educational Goals of Departments
"Department of Western Painting focuses on fostering future-oriented artists who create new artistic values and lead the cultural trend. The program takes the lead in training unique artists as needed by the contemporary society by ensuring the students' acquisition of specialist knowledge in and expression ability for contemporary art through traditional expression techniques and having them form critical perspective and an independent view of art through its harmonious organization of practice and theory courses, and through various attempts and studies. Particularly as it is affiliated with the second largest art college in South Korea, Department of Western Painting is optimized for realizing diversity and professionalism, the two major axes of art education, by acquiring a large number of students and sizable faculty and offering a number of courses."
